*Plant sterols are found in most plant foods; the largest amounts are found in vegetable oils and smaller amounts are found in nuts, legumes, bread, cereal grains, fruits, and vegetables. They have a structure similar to that of cholesterol. Plant sterols have the ability to inhibit their absorption from the digestive tract into the body. *Capsaicin is the active ingredient in cayenne peppers that gives them their medicinal properties. Studies have shown that capsaicin has the ability to protect against heart disease by lowering triglycerides and cholesterol. Most studies used supplements containing up to 30 grams.
